2021 Hunt for Happiness

In 2019 the United Nations published a list of the happiest nations on Earth. Sadly, the United States ranked 19th on the list.

So what is the connection between happiness and healthiness?
Research has shown that happiness can have a significant impact on physical health such as reducing heart disease, improving immune health and decreasing chronic pain. Overall, happy people live higher-quality, healthier, and longer lives. Looks like they were right,  laughter IS the best medicine!

In 2001, The Society of Happy People founded the Hunt for Happiness Week to promote the pursuit of happiness across the country. This week Goomi encourages you to hunt for happiness in your life.

Happiness: YOU have the power!
Research suggests that 40% of happiness is firmly within our control (not due to circumstances or genetics). So how do we attain happiness? Efforts that contribute to happiness include daily behavior patterns and habits, how we choose to think about people and situations, and what we select as personal goals and meaningful activities.

Here are our tips for you as you Hunt for Happiness:

  • Reflect. Consider what brings you happiness and explore the areas of your life that make you feel happy.
  • Get Outside. When was the last time you connected to nature or went outside? Consider going for a walk or bike ride outdoors.
  • Do More of the Things You Enjoy. Identify your favorite activities and pursue them more often. This might be cooking,  reading, or being around loved ones- whatever it is, do more of it!
  • Community. Do you have a community? Who are the people in your life that bring you happiness? How have you connected with them recently?  Try to spend more time with them (virtually or in person).
  • Make Time for Mindfulness. Participate in meditation or prayer to find peace and calmness.
  • Get Your Body Moving. Do something physically active each day. You don’t need to run a marathon or lift weights, but do what you can to get your body moving.

We hope your hunt for happiness extends beyond just this week and you find yourself living a more happy, healthy, and satisfying life.
